1.9 Time flies when you're wasting it

Not only were they running out of money, they were also running out of time. The first to show signs of old age were the cats, of course.

Daniel went completely grey in the span of a few months. For his 65th birthday, he went out for dinner with his kids Brigitte and Kevin.

All the financial and social responsibility also left their marks on Catarina and Viljo. They felt more grown-up somehow, more ready but also as if time was running through their hands like sand. Wasn't it yesterday they had started this project? They really hadn't gotten very far yet.

They still couldn't pay the bills, most of the time they looked and smelled like homeless people, because they were still living on a construction site. This was of course no place for a pet, let alone three cats. Josie was often gone for days and Cleo even ran away a couple of times. Sadly, the three of them didn't make it very long in this environment. Josie got run over by a car, Cleo got sick and had to be put down and A. Bartholomew Bittlebun Jr. just collapsed in the courtyard one day.

The three humans remained, heartbroken. Even Viljo had grown attached to these little feline bundles of happiness. They had lost hope.
